TODAY - Tuesday 13th January

Dry in most parts for the rest of today with clear spells and isolated showers, mainly in northern parts. Light to moderate westerly winds will become light southwesterly or variable this evening.

TONIGHT

Cold and dry tonight. Clear conditions for much of the night, but cloud will increase from the west towards morning. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees with frost and patchy ice developing in light south to southwest or variable winds.

TOMORROW - Wednesday 14th January

A few bright spells are possible at first on Wednesday, but it will soon cloud over. After a dry start, outbreaks of rain will develop in the west of Leinster during the late morning and extend eastwards to all parts during the afternoon. Some heavy bursts are possible. It will become breezy also as southerly winds increase moderate to fresh, with strong winds developing near the south coast. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees.

Overview: Mixed weather with low pressure dominating for the rest of the week and the weekend. Showers and rain at times but some dry and sunny spells will occur also.

Wednesday night: Rain over the eastern half of the country will clear early on Wednesday night. Clear spells and scattered showers will follow from the west, with showers mainly affecting Atlantic coastal counties. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees with a touch of frost possible later in light to moderate southerly winds.

Thursday: Many areas will be dry on Thursday with sunny spells and scattered showers. However, it will be cloudier in the east and south with light rain and drizzle developing. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in a light to moderate southerly or variable breeze.

Thursday night: Any rain will clear from the east early in the night and it will be dry for most with scattered showers in the west and southwest. There is a chance of isolated hail. Some mist and fog will develop in light to moderate southerly winds. Patches of frost and some ice too with lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees.

Friday: Fog clearing on Friday morning with sunny spells and showers for most, with the chance of isolated hail. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees in light to moderate southeasterly winds.

Saturday: A foggy start for many on Saturday with fog potentially lingering in some spots. Dry for most with just isolated showers on east and southeast coasts. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in a light northeasterly or variable breeze.

Further outlook: Unsettled for Sunday and the early days of next week with rain and showers.
