TODAY - Tuesday 19th May

There will be widespread scattered showers this afternoon and evening. Some of which will be heavy with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms or hail. It will be generally cloudy with limited sunny spells. The showers will clear eastwards and become more isolated this evening. Highest temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees, with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.

TONIGHT

Mostly cloudy overnight with further scattered showers. Some showers will band together to give prolonged falls of rain at times. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees, with mostly light to moderate, gusting fresh, southwesterly winds. These stronger near coasts and veering westerly towards morning.

There will be a mixture of cloud, sunny spells and isolated showers during the morning. Further cloud will arrive during the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees, with light to moderate southwesterly breezes.

National Outlook

Overview: Generally cloudy for the coming days with limited sunshine, along with some showers or spells of rain and drizzle. An improving picture for the weekend though, and with temperatures steadily increasing through the period.

Wednesday night: Cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle clearing northeastwards through the night. Some hill and coastal mist and fog too. Mild with lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees, with mostly moderate, occasionally fresh, southerly winds.

Thursday: Cloudy with just some patchy outbreaks of light rain or drizzle at first. More persistant, and at times heavy, rain will develop, especially over the western half of the county. There will be some hill and coastal mist and fog too. Highest temperatures of 14 to 19 degrees, warmest in the east and north, with moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Thursday night: Cloudy with some patchy outbreaks of rain or drizzle, along with some hill and coastal mist and fog in the south. Another mild night, with lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees, with light to moderate southerly winds.

Friday: Continuing mostly cloudy with limited sunny spells and further patchy outbreaks of rain or drizzle. The best of the sunny spells are likely to be further east, with the heaviest of any rain further west. Highest temperatures of 14 to 20 degrees, warmest in north Leinster and Ulster, with moderate southerly winds.

Saturday: A mostly dry day with good sunny spells developing and just the odd shower. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees, with light to moderate westerly or variable breezes.

Further outlook: Generally dry, sunny and warm for Sunday, although some mist and fog may linger in coastal areas. Temperatures will continue to rise into next week, possibly reaching the mid-twenties at times, with some good sunshine, but also some showers or spells of rain.
