National Outlook

Overview: Unsettled over the coming days with rain or showers, as well as turning cooler if not colder from Saturday night. However, high pressure will bring mostly dry and fairly calm conditions from later Tuesday, lasting for much of the Christmas period.

Saturday night: A very cold and calm night with frost and ice developing under clear skies. Some possible wintry showers may move into southeast and east areas later too. Lowest temperatures of -2 to + 2 degrees.

Sunday: Cooler than recent days with some showery rain moving in across the country on an easterly breeze with the odd wintry shower possible. It is likely to stay driest across the western half of the country with sunny spells but coldest here too. Highest daytime temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.

Monday: Some uncertainty but further showery rain is expected, mainly across Ulster and Leinster. Frost and ice in places to begin too. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees, in just a light easterly breeze.

Tuesday: Some further showers moving in across the country on a moderate east to northeast breeze, currently the focus of these will be for south and southwest counties. Highest temperature of 5 to 8 degrees.

Rather cold for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - dry and quiet with crisp winter sunshine, but with frost and ice to begin and end each day. There will be the chance of a few coastal showers up along the East Coast, in a light to moderate north to northeast breeze.
