Cool today with a mix of cloudy periods and sunny spells. Scattered showers in the west during the morning will extend eastwards through the day. Highest temperatures of just 11 to 14 degrees, in a light northwesterly or variable breeze. Later winds will back southerly and strengthen on west and southwest coasts bringing rain to the southwest by evening.


Tonight, showers or longer spells of rain, mostly in the southern half of the country, with some heavy thundery bursts at times. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees. Moderate to fresh southeasterly breezes will veer westerly and increase strong to near gale force and gusty along southwest and southern coasts.


Thursday will be a cool blustery day with occasional showers, merging to give longer spells of rain, with some heavy bursts in places. Highest temperatures of just 9 to 13 degrees, in strong to near gale force west to northwesterly winds over Munster, however mostly moderate to fresh and gusty cyclonic variable winds elsewhere, becoming fresh to occasionally strong northerly by evening.
