The year began dry and settled with high pressure over Ireland. The second half of January was unsettled and the month finished cool. After a cool start, February was very mild and relatively dry with high pressure over mainland Europe the dominant feature. Storm Erik affected Ireland on the 8th and 9th. March was a mild, unsettled month with a dry finish. Storm Freya brought some snow on the 3rd and Storm Gareth gave the strongest winds of the month on the 12th and 13th. High pressure over Scandinavia during April brought a mild south-easterly airflow over Ireland. Storm Hannah crossed the country on the 26th and 27th. May was drier for most with near average temperatures as high pressure to the north influenced our weather. Blocking high pressure over Greenland kept Ireland cool for most of June, although the final week saw warm air moving up from the south. July was warm and dry overall in a slack airflow, and finished again with very warm air moving up from the south. After a dry start, August was mild and unsettled with Atlantic low pressure systems domi-nating. Pressure was relatively high for the first three weeks of September, which gave some settled weather, but the month finished very unsettled. October and November were cool with a southerly tracking Jetstream, which brought a lot of rain to the South and East. Storm Lorenzo, an ex-tropical system, affected Ireland on the 3rd and 4th of October. After a dry and cool start, December was an Atlantic dominated windy month with variable rainfall. Storm Atiyah affected Ireland on the 8th and 9th and Storm Elsa on the 18th. On Christ-mas Day, a transient area of high pressure kept it dry and calm. The month finished mild as high pressure developed to the south-east.
