Met Éireann’s Senior Academic Leadership Funding Opportunity

Met Éireann is delighted to announce the publication of the Met Éireann Weather and Climate Research Professorship Call 2023, aimed at national, strategic and world-leading talent capacity building in the area of weather and climate services.

Irish Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are invited to submit applications for funding and following a competitive process, including international peer review, Met Éireann will select one successful HEI to create one new and additional senior academic leadership post.

HEIs are invited to propose a post which aligns with Met Éireann’s strategic objectives.

In particular, the Met Éireann Weather and Climate Research Professorship is expected to focus on the application of computational science, AI and machine learning to a range of topics including multi-hazard impact based services numerical weather prediction modelling, climate modelling, climate services and other general meteorological, climatological and hydrological applications.

Met Éireann Weather and Climate Research Professorship comes under Met Éireann’s Weather and Climate Research Programme, which underpins the expertise and knowledge needed to enable the delivery and continuous improvement of national predictive capability in the areas of weather, climate and hydrology and to ensure that, particularly in the climate context, research outputs provide the evidence and tools necessary to inform government policy and action.

Call deadline: Thursday 16th March 2023 at 17:00.

Results expected: Q2/Q3 2023.
