Accessibility Statement
Met Éireann is committed to making its app accessible, in accordance with European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) Regulations 2020.
This accessibility statement applies to the ‘Met Éireann’ app on Google Play store and on the iOS App store.
EN 301 549 is the accessibility standard required under S.I. 358/2020 European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) Regulations 2020. EN 301 549 is broadly equivalent to the W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 level AA.
Compliance Status
In October 2023, Deque Subject Matter Experts performed an In-depth Review on behalf of the National Disability Authority (NDA) on the Met Éireann mobile app. NDA is named in Irish Regulations as the National Monitoring Body for the Directive.
The Met Éireann app is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 level AA due to the non-compliance(s) and exemptions listed below.

Exempted content – Table B
The Forecast maps screen and National and Regional Forecast maps screen contain the below listed non-compliances according to the Deque Subject Matter Experts Review. The above guidelines do not apply in respect of the screens displaying maps as described in Application 3 (3) (d) of European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) Regulation 2020: Online maps and mapping services, as long as essential information is provided in an accessible digital manner for maps intended for navigational use.

The accessible alternative to the information in the Forecast Maps and National and Regional Forecast map is the text forecast which can be read by assistive technologies on the Met Éireann website at National Forecast which can also be navigated to via the Met.ie website link in the app menu.

Enforcement procedure
The 2020 Regulations state that enforcement procedure is to be “used in the case of unsatisfactory responses to any notification or request sent in accordance with Article 7(4)(c) of the 2020 Regulations.
Section 38 of the Disability Act says a person, or a specified person may make a complaint in writing to the head of a public body if that body is not following the law as outlined in sections 25, 26, 27, 28 or 29 of the Act.
