Today there will be sunny spells and scattered showers, locally of hail. The showers will be most frequent in the north and west and will be heavy at times. Blustery at first with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, but winds will ease by evening. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.
Tonight will start mainly dry with clear spells and isolated showers. Cloud will increase overnight and showery rain will develop in the south and southwest. It will become breezy with a moderate to fresh and gusty southerly wind, becoming strong in the southwest later. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees.
It will be wet and windy at times tomorrow. Rain, which will be heavy at times, and strong south to southeast winds will affect the southwest early in the morning and will then move northeastwards across the country through the day. The rain will clear from the west and southwest during the afternoon, with well scattered showers and light winds following. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees.
Overview: Unsettled over the coming days with rain or showers, as well as turning cooler if not colder from Sunday. However, high pressure will bring mostly dry and fairly calm conditions from later Tuesday, lasting for much of the Christmas period.
Saturday night: A very cold and calm night with frost and ice developing under clear skies. Some freezing fog possible across Ulster and the Midlands too. Showers wil move into southeast and east areas later, locally turning wintry. Lowest temperatures of -2 to + 2 degrees.
Sunday: Cooler than recent days with showery rain moving in across the country on an easterly breeze, with the chance of the odd wintry shower. Highest daytime temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.
Monday: Further showery rain is expected, mainly across Ulster and Leinster with more persistent spells possible across these regions. Overnight fog may linger in places. Frost and ice in places to begin too. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees, in just a light easterly breeze.
Tuesday: Some further showery rain, moving further west this time, while becoming drier elsewhere. Highest temperature of 5 to 8 degrees with just light variable breezes. Mist and fog places also.
Rather cold for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - dry and quiet with crisp winter sunshine, but with frost and ice to begin and end each day. There will be the chance of a few coastal showers up along the East Coast, in a light to moderate east to northeast breeze.
