TODAY - Wednesday 16th July

Cloud and some scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle will continue to spread northeastwards this evening. There'll be some hill and coastal fog in southern parts. Much of Ulster will remain dry with warm spells of hazy sunshine. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees in mostly light to moderate southeast or variable breezes.

TONIGHT

Cloudy tonight with good dry spells in many areas for a time, but with further scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle too. A band of heavier showery rain will push in across the western half of the country later in the night, with some thundery downpours expected and the likelihood of spot flooding in the west and southwest. There'll be some hill and coastal mist and fog too in southern areas. A mild and humid night with lowest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in light to moderate southeast to south breezes.

TOMORROW - Thursday 17th July

Tomorrow, Thursday, will be quite a cloudy wet day, as heavy thundery rain continues to slowly spread eastwards, leading to some spot flooding. It'll gradually become drier from the west through the day, with some bright or sunny spells developing, but with some scattered heavy showers too, a few possibly thundery. Later in the day it'll become cloudy again in the west and northwest with rain and drizzle moving in. Highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Overview: Changeable and rather unsettled.

Thursday night: Lingering rain across eastern counties will soon clear into the Irish Sea with some showers feeding into Atlantic counties; otherwise dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in light to moderate southwest winds.

Friday: The day will bring a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, turning heavy later in the afternoon and evening across east and northeast counties. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees in light to moderate west to southwest winds. Dry Friday night under broken cloud apart from isolated showers. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 15 degrees, coolest across western counties, all in light southeast or variable breezes.

Saturday: Generally dry with sunny spells but some scattered showers will occur too. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees with mostly light southerly breezes. Thundery bursts of rain will move in across the country during the night, though some areas will escape dry.

Sunday: Thundery showers, merging into longer spells of rain, in places into Sunday with spot flooding, local hail and lightning. Some warm spells of sunshine in parts too.
