WMO Update: Prepare for El Niño
26 June 2014

El Niño refers to the above-average sea-surface temperatures that periodically develop across the east-central equatorial Pacific.There is a 60% likelihood of an El Niño being fully established between June and August, increasing to 75-80% for the October to December period, according to an El Niño Update issued by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

The Weather of July 2014: Warm everywhere; dry and sunny in most parts

All mean temperatures were above their LTA (Long-Term Average). Most stations reported below average rainfall. Sunshine totals were variable. Monthly mean windspeeds ranged from five knots (9 km/h)  at stations in the Midlands to 11 knots (20km/h)  at Malin Head.
