Overview: High pressure will be building up from the Azores over Ireland this week, bringing largely dry settled weather. There'll just be a little patchy light rain or drizzle or a few light showers around, mainly in the west and north initially. Getting warmer through the week, with temperatures getting into the low to mid twenties, even higher in places by the end of the week.
Monday night: Becoming cloudier overnight, though clear spells will persist in eastern parts. Dry for most, with just a little patchy drizzle moving into some western coastal parts. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in light to moderate northwest winds.
Tuesday: Largely cloudy with a weak warm front bringing a few spots of light rain and drizzle, mainly across the western half of the country. Remaining dry further east with a few bright spells. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees in light to moderate west to northwest winds.
Tuesday night: A good deal of cloud overnight but mostly dry apart from lingering spots of drizzle. Mild with lowest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in light westerly winds.
Wednesday: Wednesday will be a dry day for most and while there's likely to be a good lot of cloud early on, it'll brighten up, with good spells of sunshine developing. It'll likely remain cloudy for much of the day in parts of Ulster and north Connacht with perhaps a few light showers. Highest temperatures of 17 to 23 degrees, warmest in the south, in a light to moderate westerly breeze.
Thursday: A dry day for most with sunny spells, with just the chance of the odd isolated light shower. Getting warmer generally with highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees in a light southwest or variable breeze.
Friday: A dry, mainly sunny and a very warm or hot day with highest temperatures generally of 20 to 26 degrees, and likely higher locally, in mostly moderate southerly winds, possibly a little fresher in western coastal parts.
Further outlook: There's uncertainty in the forecast for next weekend. There's a chance that the Atlantic will break through bringing more unsettled conditions with outbreaks of rain at times. There's also a chance that high pressure will hold on, bringing the possibility of widespread hot sunny conditions due to a southeasterly airflow dragging up a continental airmass over the country.
