National Forecast

26 January 2026 14:30

Today

Dull, wet and breezy today with rain across much of Leinster and Ulster, turning heavy at times too. A mix of sunny spells and scattered showers further west with highs today of 5 to 10 degrees. The rain will clear to the north-east later today but will remain cloudy and rather dull with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle across Leinster. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds will fall light later as the rain clears.

Tonight

Patchy rain and drizzle will linger in parts of the east and north early tonight, but it will be mainly dry for a time elsewhere, with a mix of cloud and clear breaks and areas of mist and fog forming. Cloud will thicken everywhere overnight with rain spreading from the east and turning heavy at times. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees, coldest where clear breaks occur. Light variable winds at first will become easterly overnight, increasing fresh to strong and gusty by morning with gales developing on coasts.

Tomorrow

Wet and windy to begin on Tuesday, with widespread rain, heavy at times, possibly turning wintry for a time about higher ground in the north and northwest during the morning. Clearer, brighter breaks and showers will follow from the south, for a time, before further spells of rain spread up over the country. The rain will be persistent in the south and east and combined with already saturated ground will lead to some localised flooding. Fresh to strong or near gale and gusty easterly winds will be strongest near eastern and southern coasts with gales on coastal fringes. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees.
