Seachtain na Gaeilge 2019

The staff of Met Éireann are looking forward to Seachtain na Gaeilge, and to celebrate it this year, we will be tweeting a forecast each morning in Irish. As well as that we will be tweeting about a new meteorological topic each afternoon also.

Year on year we are increasing the services we provide to the public through Irish. At the bottom of our home page www.met.ie  there is a link to the Irish version of our website where all static material is available through Irish.

https://www.met.ie/ga/

Also in our list of place-names (where you can select your location for a seven-day weather forecast) all Gaeltacht towns are available spelt as Gaeilge.

Our Irish language officer Ferdia McCrann is always available to attend to requests from the Media and from the general public and can often be heard speaking about weather related topics on the News and daytime Radio programmes of RTE Radió na Gaeltachta such as Adhmhaidin, Iris Aniar, Barrscéalta an Saol ó Dheas, Rónán Beo@3 & Blathnáid Libh.

In this short video above, Ferdia, a Meteorological Officer, talks about the time he has spent at the National Meteorological Service and his duties as the Officer of the Irish language.
