Becoming wet and rather windy this morning with rain in the northwest and west spreading southeastwards along with fresh to strong and gusty southwest winds. The rain will be heavy at times in the west and northwest with a chance of some spot flooding. A clearance to sunny spells and isolated showers will develop in the north and northwest in the morning, extending to most areas through the afternoon. However, cloud and patchy drizzle will linger into the evening in the southwest. The winds will veer westerly as the rain clears and just gradually moderate later, remaining rather windy throughout the day in northern parts. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 or 14 degrees.
It'll be dry in many areas tonight with clear spells, though there'll be a few scattered showers in northern parts. There'll also be more in the way of cloud and a little patchy drizzle and mist in the southwest. It'll become cloudier overnight from the west. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees in mostly moderate westerly winds, fresher in Ulster and north Connacht.
Any bright or sunny spells in the north and east will soon fade, as cloud continues to increase. It'll be mainly dry for a time, apart from a few isolated showers further north, but there'll be a little patchy light rain, drizzle and mist in the southwest in the morning, in western areas too in the afternoon and moving a little further eastwards in the evening. While amounts will be minimal, it'll become dull and misty, especially in the southwest and west, with some hill and coastal fog too. A relatively mild day with highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees, in mostly moderate west to northwest winds, fresher in the north.
Summary: A lot of dry weather to begin with high pressure ruling and relatively mild. However, it'll become more changeable from midweek and more unsettled later in the week and over the weekend, with a mobile Atlantic regime taking over and low pressure likely to be dominant, with spells of wet and windy weather at times. We'll see a downward trend in temperatures too after midweek.
Monday Night: A cloudy night with a little patchy light rain and drizzle along with some mist and hill fog. Relatively mild, with temperatures falling no lower than 7 to 10 degrees in light to moderate westerly breezes.
Tuesday: Tuesday will be a mostly dry day with just a few spots of drizzle or a few light showers around. While there'll be a good deal of cloud generally, some bright or sunny spells will develop, the best of these further to the east. Mild with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in mostly moderate west to southwest winds.
Tuesday night: A few clear spells for a time, especially further east, but becoming mostly cloudy. It'll be mainly dry for much of the night apart from the odd spot of drizzle, however towards morning more persistent rain and drizzle will start to move into coastal parts of the northwest and west. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light to moderate south-west winds, becoming a little fresher in northwestern coastal parts.
Wednesday: A cloudy day and while it'll be dry at first in many areas, scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle will slowly spread from the northwest through the day. A clearance to mostly dry conditions with some bright or sunny spells will follow from the northwest through the afternoon and evening, though the rain and cloud is likely to linger over Munster and south Leinster. Generally mild for a time with highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees, though becoming cooler from the north later. Winds will be mostly moderate, occasionally fresh, southwesterly, veering north to north-west as the rain clears.
Wednesday night: There's the chance that cloud and rain may linger in some southern and southwestren parts on Wednesday night, while it's likely that it'll be drier with some clear spells further north. It's likely to be rather cold further north, with lowest temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees and perhaps a touch of frost, but milder further south under the cloudier skies, with lowest temperatures more like 5 to 8 degrees.
Thursday: While there's uncertainty in the detail and timing, it's likely that rain will become fairly widespread for a time on Thursday, but clearing to brighter conditions with sunshine and some scattered showers. Temperatures will be down a bit on previous days, with highest values of between 7 and 12 degrees. Breezy with moderate to fresh southeast winds veering westerly.
Good Friday and Easter Weekend: While there's uncertainty in the detail at this lead time, It looks like we'll be in mobile Atlantic regime, with areas of low pressure bringing in wet and windy weather at times, but with some brighter conditions in between the spells of rain, with sunshine and a scattering of showers. Temperatures will fluctuate, with milder air moving in at times with wetter spells, but with cooler or colder calmer interludes and the chance of frost and ice. A little bit of wintry precipitation can't be ruled out.
