TONIGHT

Tonight will bring a mix of clear spells and showers, the showers mostly affecting western and northern counties, some of them heavy, with the slight chance of thunder in the north. Cooler than recent nights, with lowest temperatures of 3 to 8 degrees in mostly light to moderate southwest to west or variable breezes, fresh westerly in western and northwestern coastal parts.

TOMORROW - Friday 16th October

Tomorrow, Friday, will bring plenty of sunshine and scattered showers for a time too. The showers will be most frequent in western parts during the morning, where some will be heavy, with the slight chance of thunder at first in the north. During the afternoon, the showers will become mainly confined to parts of Ulster and Leinster, before dying away later leaving a dry and bright evening. Cool with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees, with light to moderate northwesterly winds, increasing fresh for a time in western and northern coastal parts.

National Outlook

Overview: With high pressure in control, it's going to be a settled, mainly dry weekend with good spells of sunshine. Cool, though, with some chilly nights, leading to a touch of frost in places, and with some mist and fog overnight and into the mornings. Continuing mainly dry on Monday too, with uncertainty beyond that and the chance that it may turn a little more unsettled from Tuesday, but if so, it'd also be a little milder, most noticeably by night.

Friday night: Apart from a few isolated light showers at first in northern coastal parts, Friday night will be dry and mostly clear for a time. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees, maybe reaching freezing locally, with a touch of frost in places, and with some mist and fog patches developing, in just light northwesterly or variable breezes.

Saturday: Any mist and fog patches will clear through Saturday morning, to leave a dry, bright day with lots of sunshine generally, though perhaps a little bit cloudier at times in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 or 14 degrees in light variable or northeasterly breezes.

Saturday night: Another dry, chilly night on Saturday night. Some mist and fog patches will develop as skies will be mostly clear and winds will just be light or variable. Lowest temperatures once again of about 1 to 5 degrees, possibly lower locally, with a touch of frost possible.

Sunday: Mist and fog will gradually clear through Sunday morning to leave a dry day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Highest temperatures again of 11 to 13 degrees in light variable breezes.

Monday: Not too much change on Monday, with mist and fog clearing through the morning to leave another mainly dry bright day with sunny spells. It may be a little cloudier early in the day in northwestern coastal parts with perhaps the odd spot of drizzle, and there's the chance of a few isolated light showers drifting in from the east. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees in mostly light to moderate east to southeasterly breezes, possibly a touch fresher in northwestern coastal parts.

Tuesday: There's uncertainty in the forecast from Tuesday, and while there's the chance that high pressure may continue to dominate, it currently looks like we may see some cloud and outbreaks of rain moving up from the southeast for a time, followed by sunny spells and showers. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, in mostly moderate southeasterly winds, a little fresher in southern and southeastern coastal parts.

Wednesday: While the uncertainty in the forecast continues for this lead time, current indications suggest outbreaks of heavy showery rain may move up from the south, with the chance of a few thundery bursts in it too. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees.
