TODAY - Sunday 25th January

A dull start with mist and fog patches in the south, while outbreaks of rain and drizzle will linger over the northern half of the country.
Conditions will generally remain cloudy and dry throughout the day, with just well scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, in light to moderate easterly or variable winds.

TONIGHT

Rain and drizzle will continue overnight with dry and clear conditions over parts of the southwest where frost and icy patches may form early on in the night. Cloud will thicken towards morning as heavy rain feeds in from the southwest. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees, coldest in the southwest. Light to moderate east to south-east or variable winds, stronger along west and north coasts.

TOMORROW - Monday 26th January

Another dull and wet day with widespread rain. Rain will persist for the afternoon, and turn heavy at times, before gradually clearing eastwards. Breezy too with fresh to strong south-east winds, and gusts along Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 4 to 10 degrees, coldest in the north.

National Outlook

Overview: Areas of low pressure will bring a continuation of unsettled weather throughout next week. It will be cold and breezy at times with further bands of heavy rain, possibly turning wintry at times.


Monday night: A band of persistent rain, heavy at times, will linger over east and northeast counties at first. Clear and dry conditions elsewhere will become widespread as that rain gradually clears, allowing for frost and ice to form. Cold and calm with lowest temperatures of -2 to +1 degrees.

Tuesday: Cold and crisp with frost and ice patches aswell as some early sun in the west. Elsewhere will see wet and windy weather feeding in from the east through the morning and afternoon. Rain will turn heavy at times and possibly wintry too, with any falls of snow most likely on higher ground. Highest daytime temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees, but feeling extra chilly due to the very brisk easterly or cyclonic variable winds.

Tuesday night: Showery outbreaks of rain will continue overnight, with any snow being mainly confined to higher ground. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees in moderate northeast or variable winds.

Wednesday: Another cold day instore with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle with patches of mist and fog possible too. As the rain gradually clears northwards throughout the day, there will be opportunities for drier spells to develop over southern counties. Highest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees in light variable winds.

Thursday: Starting off mostly dry with rain and drizzle over parts of the northeast. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will move in the southwest early on and gradually spread northwards throughout the day, turning heavy at times over parts of the south and east. Highest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees, coldest in the north, in moderate to fresh southeasterly or cyclonic variable winds. Strong at times along Atlantic coasts.

Further outlook: As mobile Atlantic flow will persist we will see areas of low pressure continuing to bring unsettled weather with further outbreaks of heavy rain expected across next weekend.
