Today

Continuing mainly cloudy and dry through the rest of this afternoon but there's a chance of drizzle near the south coast and light showers near the northwest coast. Outbreaks of rain will develop in north Ulster this evening. Chilly with highest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees, coldest in Ulster, with light to moderate westerly or variable winds.

Tonight

Tonight will be cold with widespread frost and some icy stretches, as temperatures fall to between -2 and +2 degrees. Cloud and outbreaks of rain will move southwards over the northern half of the country. Other areas will be partly cloudy with some showers. Westerly winds will be mainly light to moderate but fresh at times in the north and east.

Tomorrow

A cold start to New Year's Day with widespread frost and some icy stretches. Cloud and patchy rain will clear southwards during the morning and there'll be plenty of dry and bright weather for the afternoon, with just isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly winds, fresher near northern and northwestern coasts.
