Postdoctoral Researcher – Enhanced Climate Parameter Gridding (Fixed Term Contract)

Met Éireann, a line division of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, is seeking expressions of interests in a research fellowship, which will commence as soon as possible. The following is a description of the role to be recruited for.

Postdoctoral Researcher – Future short duration high intensity rainfall events for Ireland.

(Fixed term Contract).

Working within the Climate Services Division the successful candidate will work to develop an R soft-ware based intense rainfall model which will account for climate change projections predicting rainfall amounts at any specific location which users may require. Currently Met Éireann has an intense rain-fall model which is based on historical data, however this does not include the effects of a changing climate. The selected candidate will explore various avenues for developing a model through an ex-amination that incorporates the existing Met Éireann methodology, while also considering approaches utilised by other meteorological services. Testing will enable the identification of the optimal model, which will then be further refined, leading to the creation of a finalised documented model accompa-nied by comprehensive intense rainfall datasets and maps.
