Science Week 2016: Next stop Dublin!
17 November 2016

The next European Meteorological Society (EMS) annual conference will be held in Dublin City University (DCU) from 4th-8th September 2017, following a successful bid by the Irish Meteorological Society. This will be the largest international meteorological conference held in the country to date. The conference covers all aspects of meteorological science from instrumentation and observations to climatology, numerical weather predication and broadcast meteorology.

One of the highlights of the 2016 conference, which was held in the Italian city of Trieste, was the prestigious Silver Medal lecture entitled Meteorology and 21st century challenges given by Laureate Michel Jarrad. At the handover ceremony from Trieste to Dublin, Professor Peter Lynch, UCD, read an excerpt from James Joyce’s Dubliners, which was a fitting tie between the two cities because Joyce famously spent several years living in Trieste in his early twenties.

With an overall attendance of over 600 participants from 45 countries, the conference provides a great platform for fostering collaborations and exchanging ideas. It also gives researchers the chance to publish their work in Advances in Science and Research; an open access peer-reviewed journal.

Details of the 2017 conference entitled Serving Society with better weather and climate information will be posted here as they become available; sign up here for EMS alerts.
