The Met Éireann rainfall radar at Shannon Airport is currently not operational due to a technical issue, hence the loss of rainfall radar coverage in the west and south-west of Ireland.
We apologise for this significant loss in coverage especially given the prevailing unsettled Atlantic weather pattern.
Tuesday 13th August: We are awaiting delivery from Germany of replacement parts for the Shannon radar this week. Some additional maintenance work and testing will be required when the replacement parts are fitted.
We will update this article on the expected resumption of service date this Friday.
(Update on longer term planning: Met Éireann is in the development stage of a major programme to modernise and expand the weather radar network of Ireland in order to meet the State’s needs to 2040).
