TODAY - Sunday 25th January

Mostly cloudy with some patches of mist, along with just scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Light to moderate easterly or variable winds.

TONIGHT

Generally cloudy tonight with well scattered patches of rain, drizzle and mist continuing. There will be clear spells at times early on, particularly in parts of the south and southwest where some frost may form, along with some patches of mist and fog. However, cloud will build from the west overnight with heavy rain moving eastwards over Munster and west Connacht by morning. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees, coldest in the southwest, with mostly light southeasterly or variable winds, increasing moderate to fresh by morning.

TOMORROW - Monday 26th January

Dull, wet and breezy tomorrow with widespread outbreaks of rain, turning heavy at times. A clearance will move into the southwest tomorrow afternoon with bright spells and the occasional shower. Staying cloudier over eastern counties with patches of rain lingering through much of the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees, mildest in the southwest, with moderate to fresh, occasionally strong, southeasterly winds that will ease and veer southerly with the clearance of the rain.

National Outlook

Overview: Areas of low pressure will bring a continuation of unsettled weather throughout next week. It will be cold and breezy at times with further bands of heavy rain, possibly turning wintry at times.


Monday night: A band of persistent rain, heavy at times, will linger over east and northeast counties at first. Clear and dry conditions elsewhere will become widespread as that rain gradually clears, allowing for frost and ice to form. Cold and calm with lowest temperatures of -2 to +1 degrees.

Tuesday: Cold and crisp with frost and ice patches aswell as some early sun in the west. Elsewhere will see wet and windy weather feeding in from the east through the morning and afternoon. Rain will turn heavy at times and possibly wintry too, with any falls of snow most likely on higher ground. Highest daytime temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees, but feeling extra chilly due to the very brisk easterly or cyclonic variable winds.

Tuesday night: Showery outbreaks of rain will continue overnight, with any snow being mainly confined to higher ground. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees in moderate northeast or variable winds.

Wednesday: Another cold day instore with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle with patches of mist and fog possible too. As the rain gradually clears northwards throughout the day, there will be opportunities for drier spells to develop over southern counties. Highest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees in light variable winds.

Thursday: Starting off mostly dry with rain and drizzle over parts of the northeast. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will move in the southwest early on and gradually spread northwards throughout the day, turning heavy at times over parts of the south and east. Highest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees, coldest in the north, in moderate to fresh southeasterly or cyclonic variable winds. Strong at times along Atlantic coasts.

Further outlook: As mobile Atlantic flow will persist we will see areas of low pressure continuing to bring unsettled weather with further outbreaks of heavy rain expected across next weekend.
