National Forecast

Issued at: 03 February 2026 22:00

TONIGHT

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle slowly clearing northwards with showers following from the south where there will be occasional clear breaks. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 or 7 degrees with moderate to fresh easterly winds, easing light to moderate from the south. There will be a continued possibility of flooding in places due to a combination of already saturated ground, high river levels and high tides.

TOMORROW - Wednesday 4th February

A fair amount of cloud tomorrow with just some bright or sunny spells. Lingering rain and drizzle in the north will slowly clear by early afternoon. Scattered showers will feed up from the south, some of which will be heavy. The showers will be most frequent in the southwest where they will merge to longer spells of rain at times. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees, with mostly moderate easterly winds, fresher for southern and eastern coasts.

National Outlook

Overview: Low pressure to the southwest of Ireland will bring further spells of rain this week, with heavy and persistent falls affecting southern and eastern areas. A combination of already saturated ground, high river levels and high tides mean flooding is likely along rivers and in coastal areas.

Wednesday night: Remaining cloudy with rain feeding in from the south across southern counties. Further north will be drier with some clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 8 degrees, with moderate to fresh easterly winds.

Thursday: Uncertainty in the forecast but current indications suggest a wet and windy day with widespread rain, turning persistent and heavy at times. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, with fresh to strong easterly winds.

Thursday night: Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will continue overnight but will gradually become patchier and confined to the south and east towards morning. Ulster and north Connacht will stay mostly dry overnight apart from the odd shower. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees, mildest in the south, in fresh to strong and gusty easterly winds, stronger along coasts.

Friday: Friday is looking to be another wet and windy day with widespread outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Heavy and persistent falls will mostly affect the south and east. Highest temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees, with fresh to strong easterly winds.

Further outlook: Current indications are for similar conditions to persist into the weekend.
