New report on Storm Darwin
20 January 2016

Storm Darwin hit Ireland on 12 February 2014 causing major damage to housing, property and forestry.  Met Éireann has analysed the storm and produced a report as part of the Technical Note series.  This report describes Storm Darwin and assesses the weather forecasts that were issued at the time.  The climate records suggest that Storm Darwin was broadly a 1 in 20 year event although locally, the categorisation as ‘worst in living memory’ may be appropriate in the worst-affected regions.
