Let’s be open: the future of scientific research
12 November 2015

Science relies on the distribution of high-quality research and ideas. But a lot of the world’s scientific research is only available through expensive subscriptions to scientific journals or through connections with established institutions. Met Éireann tries to reduce these restrictions by making our research available to all. We follow the National Principles for Open Access by offering ‘Open Access’ to our publicly-funded research.

Open Access means providing online access to scholarly research and allowing reuse of research with as few restrictions as possible, subject to proper attribution. This short video (produced by PHD comics) explains Open Access is more detail:

The Met Éireann Library partners with TCD Library’s edepositIreland to collect, preserve and disseminate Met Éireann publications online. We use metadata that is compliant to national and international standards so that our content is fully searchable and our platform is interoperable. Anyone can access the research output of our organisation at the publications page of our website or through our edepositIreland collection. We want to encourage and promote meteorological sciences in Ireland by providing free online access to our high-quality research. It’s as simple as that.

Some of the most recent additions to our collection include:
