General Forecasting Division

IT Operations

As soon as data are coded and sent by computer from the Met Éireann Weather Stations, their first port of call is with I.T. in Met Éireann Head Quarters. This division works around the clock, liaising particularly with CAFO Operations, external agencies and also with internal I.T. colleagues. Together, they work to resolve technical issues and ensure the timely and accurate reception, processing and distribution of data. This data includes systems for numerical weather prediction, graphics display, telecommunications, radar, satellite information and aviation weather databases. I.T.'s role in the forecast is a crucial one. Only after this stage is the data be directed to CAFO Operations, where the raw data is plotted and graphed.
