The station is situated at Gurteen Agricultural College, just off the N52
between Birr (Co. Offaly) and Nenagh (Co. Tipperary).

History:
An Automatic Weather Station (AWS) was opened at Gurteen on the 12th April
2008. The station measures air temperature, earth and soil temperatures, rainfall, wind speed and direction, humidity, solar radiation, cloud height and amount and present weather. It has replaced Birr as a synoptic station.
