Research and Applications Division

The primary responsibility of the Research and Applications Division is the maintenance
and development of the computer model used for operational short-range forecasting.
The HIRLAM model (High Resolution Limited Area Model) is developed in an international
cooperative project with Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway,
Spain and Sweden as members. Its use in Met Éireann has resulted in a
significant increase in the accuracy of our forecasts. The Research and Applications
Division is also responsible for development of a range of meteorological applications.
The Marine Unit, Agmet Unit and Library are part of the division.
