Cold again today, with dry weather in most areas but with a few scattered showers also - these chiefly over Leinster during the morning. The showers generally of rain or sleet, but giving a little snow on mountains. Widespread cloud cover at first, with a mainly frost-free start. Sunshine breaking through in places later this morning or this afternoon. Highest temperatures 3 to 6 C. Light or moderate mainly northeasterly winds.

Tonight

Cold tonight, and generally dry - only a slight risk of some coastal showers in the east and southeast. Variable cloud cover. Sharp or severe frost developing where skies clear. Light or moderate northeast or variable winds. Lowest temperatures + 1 to - 4 C generally, + 2 to + 4 C on exposed coasts.

09 February 2010 - HAITI NEEDS METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES AS RAINS/HURRICANES APPROACH

Geneva, 9 February 2010 (WMO)- In order to prevent potential disasters related to the natural hazards, which the country is prone to, the capacity of Haiti to produce and disseminate weather information and warnings needs to be developed without delay. Weather forecasts and early warnings from the Haiti National Meteorological Center are essential for national authorities, humanitarian and development agencies, and the people, for emergency contingency planning and recovery.

01 February 2010 - January 2010 Weather Summary: Coldest January for at least 25 years; dry and very sunny

Mean monthly air temperatures were around two or three degrees below normal for January in most places; it was the coldest January since 1985 generally and the coldest since 1963 in the Dublin area. Both maximum and minimum values were around six degrees below normal during the first ten days, when daytime values remained below freezing on some days in midland and eastern areas, while minimum values of below -10°C were recorded in the same areas between the 7th and 10th.
